FAQs

What is telehealth counseling?

Telehealth counseling is a method of providing mental health care services remotely, using video conferencing or phone calls. This approach allows individuals to access professional support from the comfort of their own homes or any other suitable location, making mental health care more accessible and convenient.

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, click on the "Book a Session" button on our homepage, or navigate to the "Team" section and choose a therapist to book. You can also contact us by phone or email to set up an appointment.

Are virtual therapy sessions as effective as in-person sessions?

Several studies have shown that telehealth counseling can be just as effective as traditional in-person therapy for many mental health concerns. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches and tailor their treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each client, ensuring that you receive the most effective care possible. In the event telehealth would not be the best fit for you, our team will work with you to connect with a provider who can meet your needs.

Do you offer in-person appointments?

In an effort to maintain the most flexibility of scheduling for clients and providers, we are exclusively offering telehealth at this time. We believe that geographical location shouldn’t be a barrier to receiving effective care.

Will my insurance cover telehealth services?

Many insurance providers now cover telehealth counseling services. However, coverage may vary depending on your specific plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm whether telehealth services are covered under your policy. We’ve put together a cheat sheet covering what you need to know before contacting your insurance company. Check it out here.

Is telehealth counseling secure and confidential?

At Mentallurgy, we take your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. We use secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms to ensure that your personal information and therapy sessions are protected. Our therapists also adhere to strict ethical guidelines to maintain the confidentiality of your sessions.

What technology do I need for telehealth counseling?

To participate in telehealth counseling sessions, you'll need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (such as a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone), and a private space where you can speak openly without interruptions. We recommend headphones to help cut down on echo and background noise, but they’re not required.

Can I choose a specific therapist?

Yes, you can choose a specific therapist from our Provider Partners section. You can review their profiles, areas of expertise, and personal approach to therapy before deciding who you'd like to work with. If you're unsure which therapist might be the best fit for you, feel free to contact us for assistance.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. Please contact your therapist or our office at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. This allows us to offer the appointment slot to another client in need.

How long are therapy sessions?

Typically, therapy sessions last for 50-55 minutes. However, the length of a session may vary depending on the specific needs of the client or the type of service provided (such as group therapy or couples counseling). Your therapist will discuss the session duration with you during your initial consultation.
